Links between prenatal stress in pregnancy, motor development, and infant temperament

A study by Christin Haselbeck et al. in 2017 measured the effects of prenatal stress during pregnancy on infant temperament and motor skills development. This study found a link between higher overall prenatal stress and a more difficult temperament. This link was shown in infant activity levels. These kids move their legs and feet much more than kids born to less stressed moms. This study also found a link between prenatal stress and the development of fine motor skills and a more difficult temperament. This means increased stress during pregnancy could lead to a child that is harder to soothe and more active than if there was less stress during pregnancy.
